Past 5 Months Or So

Nothing but turbulence.
Haven't had a computer on which to update this blog. Got kicked out (over it), lived at Stephen Jones', lived at Coach Koch's, now live at my girlfriend Trish's house.
Went to Warped, awesome. Met Craig Owens, hung out with Christopher Drew at Burger King afterwards. Saw AttackAttackChiodosNevershoutneverTheMaine3oh3TDWPBouncingSouls
AllTimeLowISetMyFriendsOnFireCashCashShutUpAndDeal.
Hanging out with my bros GlennCole and Danny 'n Brad Blaise from the old band The Inviting, just met them recently.
But mostly nonstop hanging out with Spence, Cameron, Will, Keith, and Colin.

To sum it up.

'such great heights'

Iron & Wine's cover of The Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. I could listen to it for hours. It pretty much combines the lyrical genius of Ben Gibbard with Samuel Beam's pretty folksy acoustic guitar playing.
I put the song on my next mix for Alayna.

"i'm thinking it's a sign
that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images
and when we kiss they're
perfectly aligned.
and i have to speculate
that God Himself did make us into
corresponding shapes like puzzle pieces
from the clay.
and true, it may seem like a stretch,
but it's thoughts like this that
catch my troubled head when
you're away and i am
missing you to death.
when you're out there on the road
for several weeks of shows
and when you scan the radio
i hope this song will guide you home.
they will see us waving from such great heights
come down now, they'll say
but everything looks perfect from far away
come down now
but we'll stay.
i tried my best to leave
this song on your machine
but the persistent beat
it sounded thin upon listening
and that frankly will not fly
you'll hear the shrillest highs
and lowest lows
with the windows down
when this is guiding you home.
they will see us waving from such great heights
come down now, they'll say
but everything looks perfect from far away
come down now, but we'll stay."

perfection.

Owl City nap

Spence just woke me up from a nice Owl City nap in my room. We're about to go hang out. He just got off work at 9 PM. Summer's going along nicely.

Night Adventures

So we all got bored and decided to go pool hopping.

Will, Cameron, Kasey, Keith and I ran down the street to Dane's because Will had to poop really bad and Dane had a really big pool. But the tarp was on so we decided to hit up Jeff's place a few blocks away.
We ran past Colin's house through some yards and around some fences until we decided to just hop a gate into some random house's yard and go in their pool. Will dumped some logs, and Colin, Keith, Kasey and I relieved our bladders.
After that, all seven of us went back to Spencer's and relaxed in the hot tub for a while.

Well, it's 3:24 and everyone left for Kasey's except for Spencer and me, because we're tired. Colin also went home down the street because he hasn't slept for a couple days. He looked really tired.
Yeah, it was pretty fun. A good introduction to what is going to be an awesome summer full of crazy nights.

We're about to snooze now, so i gotta go. I'll drop in soon.

Sleep over

So right now i'm upstairs blogging and stuff while everyone else is down there probably playing Risk. The show at Fubar in St. Louis tonight was awesome, we played a new song, "All We Have", that Spencer and i wrote about a week ago. I think we did really well, and we met some cool people.
Afterwards we met up with Cameron, Kasey, Colin, Keith, Will and Kaitlin and Denny's. I don't think anybody ate anything. We just talked about porn movie names like "E.T. The extra testicle." I came up with "Deep impact" and "The Sperminator". I was quite proud of those.
Anyway, now we're here at Spencer's dad's and Spencer just pulled me into the kitchen to talk about our next shows. We're so stoked about doing more; every time we do one we have so much fun meeting new people and playing good music.
Well, i'm going to go back downstairs with some Oreos. Goooooooooooodnight.

Important List

I just can't think of anything really good and worthwhile to write. So i'll post something semi- to non-worthwhile for you to read 'n heed.

List of things for me NOT to do tomorrow that i did today:
1. Trip on somebody's foot.
2. Hit on 7 girls i've never met at once.
3. Advertise Jimmy John's subs outside Quizno's subs.
4. Go inside my bank just to withdraw $2.50 from my account
5. Watch 'The Messengers'
6. Tweet about meaningless stuff on Twitter every few seconds.
6. Suck at playing guitar! The Longshot has a show tomorrow! :DDD

Plus, i learned a new term from the internets- "wtg?" (what the gay?)

ohohand here's a picture Hannah took of me holding a unicorn kite.

A summer night.

So i'm currently living pretty much a new life.
One where i do things on my own time.
I work, sure, but that's a necessity to do the things I want to do.
I just graduated high school last weekend. It was a pretty huge event- grandpa and grandma drove out from their home in Oroville, California, and visited for a few days. Grandpa brought a five pound hershey's bar. Oh he knows me so well.
Today i flew a kite with Hannah at the park. Sort of like an introductory activity into the new summer now approaching fast. I think this is gonna be a great summer.
Spencer and I are saving up for a tour somewhere in the midwestern states. Steven of A Reaction To You wants to come along for the ride. I think this is going to be an amazing summer.
Well, i don't have much to write right now. Actually, that's not true. I have tons to write. All about my friends, the one's i've been spending my days with doing nothing, and the ones still in school taking finals tomorrow. I could write about how warm (hot!) it is outside now, and how blue the sky is. Or about how i've been relaxing to Owl City and Port Blue nonstop.
But i'm too tired. :)

Prom!

With alayna bear.

i met her 2 years and 4 months ago on an airplane.

We danced the night away. She and I. I didn't really care about anything else, really. Afterwards we had a picnic at O'fallon park with Spencer and Jess. I think she had fun.

Well, she's gone until next time. We went to breakfast at Denny's with her mom this morning.

Man, she's a doll. I miss her already. Gaww.

Pictures later. She's gone, i'll talk about it more later, probably.

Prom, 3 2 1.

Wow, my senior Prom is right on the doorstep. Alayna's coming tomorrow and we're spending the day with Spencer and Jess. I went out to get my articles of clothing- i got a nice white shirt with a turquoise tie that matches my Vans perfectly. I got some skinny black pants from Hot Topic. Aaaand a sweet suit vest from Target. The whole package was like $50!
Plus, at Dierburg's, Mom and I picked out a corsage for Alayna. Yellow with tiny white daisies in it. It's going to look awesome. She's going to look awesome.
Man, i can't wait to see her again. We'll be sitting at the table with Will, Kaitlin, Alaina, Wil McCarthy, Micheal, Chaz and some other people. We finna rip it up.

ps. i got this hella sexy Playboy cologne.

"...so you made my life into a movie..."

Just got back from probably the best Jack's Mannequin show i've ever been to, right under the '06 Tour For The Cure one up in Champaigne. Freaking amazing night tonight. I went up with Mark, and met up with Alexa and some of her friends. This was her first time ever seeing them.

So we bro'd it down with Low Vs Diamond after their set over at the merch table, they're really nice guys. Tad was pretty cool, and one of them had an awesome fro.

Anyway, the actual show was phenomenal. They opened with 'Crashin' and went through 'The Mixed Tape', 'Annie Use Your Telescope', and a bunch of other Glass Passenger songs i hadn't seen live yet.

Here's the setlist according to some friends on jacksmannequin.org...

Crashin
The Mixed Tape
Annie Use Your Telescope
Spinning
Holiday From Real
Swim
Bloodshot
I'm Ready
MFEO/You Can Breathe
Rescued
Hammers & Strings
Bruised
The Resolution
Dark Blue

...encore...

Caves
Cavanaugh Park
La La Lie

No Doris Day, but CRASHIN and CAVES and CAVANAUGH PARK and HAMMERS... gawww all of it was just perfect. He was so into it and kept spitting everywhere.

PS. The Disco ball was ridiculously awesome.
PSS. Girls kept hitting on me all night. I grinded the night away with this girl i met during Dark Blue and we danced to Caves. Cool. And some girl gave me her number. Coool. Whatev!

April 10, 2009

spring, full blast

I missed my acoustic guitar. I kind of took a break of sorts after New Years, and i just picked it back up again and have been writing like crazy.
So i've got this new little song i've been working on I'm calling Prom, and you can probably guess what it's about! I have to say it's a lot more upbeat than a lot of the songs i've written for acoustic guitar. Here are some words from it!

it's freaking me out that my heart is done
with all of its searching
i'm so sick of waiting for May to come
and greet us with
a reason to dress up and waste our time
time that's never coming back
so hold me tight till it feels right
and shake that ass.

oh i've got news for you
my darling dear.
and oh, i will wait for you
cuz this is love
and you are not right here
next to me.
but you will be.

like i've said numerous times, the weather has a direct correlation with my inspiration for writing stuff. It's that time of year where the air is getting warmer with the constant rain and flowers are coming out of all their hiding places. I haven't taken any walks yet, but if you know me, i do that often and that is where most of my songs come from- if i'm stumped on a lyric or melody, i take a walk and let it follow me.

Well, Spencer's in Idaho or Michigan or something, so i'll probably be going to some party out of town with Stephen Reichelt tonight.

keep it real!

ps. Jack's Mannequin for the sixth time next week! Yeah!

Fruity Loops (music update)

I just went to Guitar Center today with Stephen Reichelt and i was looking at the gear for when i want to do my A Firefly Stare songs live... looks like some pretty basic stuff that i could get used to. The guy talked to me about the sampling and stuff for the midi synths, mostly stuff i had already figured, like i'll need to make most of the music beforehand.

Right now i'm downloading the latest demo of FL Studios on my PC (Jeff's getting me a cracked full version sometime soon) so i can work on beats and melodies and stuff at home, instead of taking a trip to the studio. I think Things will go a lot faster this way.

Plus, i'm planning on putting my Firefly songs as a 4-track ep up on the iTunes store whenever i finish vocals for "Visit You". The other three songs are finished, and i've aleady started writing new songs. I don't think i can ever just stop.

Well, i have to go to work soon so i gotta take a shower. Aaron just got back a couple nights ago from Nebraska and Stephen Jones just left for Phoenix for an open house at the Conservatory of Recording Arts. Cool!

I'm On A Boat!

This has got to be one of the funniest things i've seen in a good minute.

February 19, 2009

Swallowed up for a moment.

Past month-

- parties and flings
- school... sorta
- writing, recording
- cruising with friends.
- partying some more.
- not updating this blog.

wow, time to step back and look at this past month?
I just gave blood today for the Red Cross, the second time i've done so in school. I love doing it. Like i've said- i'd do it every day if it wouldn't kill me.
Hmm, Lost is back on. I've gone completely back into my full Lost geek mode, constantly checking the latest blogs and theories. I've been having people over every Wednesday night, it's been a blast so far, this season is turning out so great.
I'm down the street at Stephen's more than i'm actually at home. Aaron, Haley and Mike are constantly over here and we're constantly having other friends over, just chillin.
I found out i have stalkers. Like, legit "follow my wardrobe day to day" stalkers.
I've successfully started my new project i call A Firefly Stare, which i am sort of theming on my recent obsession with sleep, and the twilight feeling before and after it. It's a really ambient synthy sound, and i've been having great feedback from my friends.
Spencer and I have finally gotten back together for the battle of the bands final at FUBAR, our first performance since we all broke up. We had so much fun we decided to keep doing acoustic shows together. I think that's great, i miss playing with him.

Well, there's a quick update. I also recently bought the latest iPod Nano with video, and a pay as you go phone. Gotta keep up with technology.

a little taste

of things to come...

"we are stuck here.
we're so stuck here.
i'm sure everyone here understands what i say
just show me some hands if you can relate.
'cause we are stuck here.
we're all stuck here."

"give me
something to think about
as i shut my eyes and plug my ears
i'll try to go and face my fears..."

"i come alone to visit you
the first time in so long
to see what's new.
and there is nothing to prove.
we hit the ground running."

"oh oh play us the song of the night
come on let's go, you're wasting time
and we could make this count if you cross the line.
just tell me if you're feeling all right."

just some pieces of some new songs.

-davie

2009... a transitional year for all of us.

So... Colin quit the band, which led to Spencer, Sam and Colin starting their own thing because they didn't feel like they had enough creative freedom working with me. But all is well, they're not doing it to spite me or anything, and I'm starting my own solo thing. Which means the end of The Longshot is nigh... February 15th, to be exact.

We're still planning on recording the EP and doing the big Battle of the Bands final like we were, but are going to go our own separate musical ways after that. As depressing as that is for me (i did have a lot of fun with the guys, especially Spencer), it does open new doors to new wonderous things. I'm planning on continuing to write my own songs, but head in a new musical direction as a solo artist. Not to get cocky or bigheaded or anything. It's just that we all agree that I work best alone as a musician at this point, because my ideas are so specific.

But Sam, Colin and Spencer did great at bringing my ideas to life. I know they had a lot of fun too, and i'm glad they get to do exactly what they want now.

Spencer keeps telling me he'll always be there if i want to do more shows with him, which still shows how great a friend he really is. I hope we all get what we're aiming for, because there's a lot going on in this little old town.

Things change, The Longshot was destined to come to an end, what with Spencer and I graduating high school and all. I'm just glad i still have these awesome friends and got to do all these amazing things, meet all those amazing people and go to all the places we did. It was a fun ride, and i can't wait to see what's in store for me and all of us next.

2009- it's a year of change. I'm so excited to live this one.

Edit: I sounded way too official in this one.
